Logan City officials announced that Pioneer Day festivities will be held on Thursday, July 24 at Willow/Horseshoe Park, beginning with fun runs and sports tournaments in the morning, a parade at 10 a.m., and a fireworks display at 10 p.m.—local music will highlight the event with the Bear River Ramblers performing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Mile Marker 6 from 7 to 8 p.m., and Michelle Lambert at 8:30 p.m.

Charles Allan Olson, a 48-year-old from Newton, pleaded no contest to charges of attempted lewdness, sexual battery, and attempted child voyeurism on July 14 at Logan’s 1st District Court—he will serve 120 days in jail with credit for time served, pay $15,660 for victim therapy, and must return to court on Jan. 12 for a review hearing.

USU Extension worked with KUTV 2 News and reporter Brian Schnee to make a video that shows how homeowners in the Wildland/Urban Interface can protect their homes from wildfires. The video explains how to create safe home ignition zones (immediate, intermediate, and extended) after the Forsyth Fire burned 13 homes in Pine Valley and advises residents to get home assessments from local fire departments and state agencies.
