CULTURE NEWS

  • Zootah will open its doors on March 6 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) with free admission so visitors can meet a variety of animals.  The Herald Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Renewable energy production in Utah has grown as solar use nearly doubled from 2020 to 2024, keeping local electricity bills among the nation’s lowest, according to research. Regional pressures such as hotter summers and grid upgrades may drive changes going forward — residents should stay aware.  KVNU
  • Utah’s renewable energy rose from 12.5 percent to nearly 21 percent between 2020 and 2024 + projected electricity bills remain among the lowest in the nation, easing energy cost concerns despite growing grid challenges.  Cache Valley Daily
  • The U.S. long-term mortgage rate dropped to 5.98% this week (from 6.01% last week), a shift that may ease costs for local home buyers as the spring market approaches.  KVNU

  • Logan police remind drivers that left-to-curb parking and backing into angled stalls are not allowed to keep traffic safe and flowing. The measure aims to reduce risky maneuvers & help vehicles remain visible at night.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Utah State University Police Department added a new bomb-sniffing K-9 officer—Wolverine, the third on the force—to boost campus security today.  The Herald Journal

  • Lily Jarvis Fuller, a Logan native and USU master’s student (23) will head to New Zealand on March 5 to compete in the Spearfishing World Championships at Lake Taupo. Her team will target bullhead catfish and is seeking sponsors to cover travel and training costs.  Cache Valley Daily
