The ranking evaluated metrics like eighth-grade math performance, STEM job demand, and venture capital funding (reports also highlighted challenges in rural areas) as the state built its tech economy.
Utah earned a top ten spot in WalletHub’s 2025 ranking due to strong eighth-grade math and science scores and a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem — the report also noted Northern Utah areas such as Logan emerging as hubs for aerospace, life sciences and IT.
The evaluation credited local contributions from institutions like Utah State University and the Space Dynamics Laboratory with fueling the innovation economy.
🏥 Health
Ketamine, a drug used for pain relief and depression treatment, was linked to celebrity Matthew Perry’s 2023 death and poses serious health risks when used recreationally—risking quick tolerance, dependency, and overdose symptoms.
