GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announced plans to replace the spillway at Hyrum Dam and awarded a $115 million contract to AMES Federal Contracting Group—construction will begin later this year with a new design that raises the water discharge from 50 to 200 cubic feet per second. The project will improve safe water releases downstream for the community.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Utah added new protections for children of online content creators when Gov. Spencer Cox signed a law on Tuesday that allows removal of digital content featuring minors and requires parents earning over $150,000 to set aside 15% of their earnings into a trust fund. The measure follows the child abuse conviction of YouTuber Ruby Franke and aims to protect kids from exploitation — a change supported by statements from affected family members.  Cache Valley Daily
  • The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $115 million contract to AMES Federal Contracting Group to replace the spillway at Hyrum Dam later this year. The project will replace the 24 in outlet with 36 in piping to boost discharge capacity from 50 cfs to 200 cfs (expected to take about three years).  KVNU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Utah became the first state to test 100% of its K-12 schools for lead in drinking water under the Lead-Free Learning Initiative — more than 1,150 schools and child care facilities were tested and the state will fund necessary repairs if levels exceed 5 parts per billion.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Leticia Clegg joined Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital as its first certified child life specialist to support children during medical procedures through play and education. The hospital plans to expand child life services that are free to patients and funded by community donations.  KVNU
