CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Logan man pleaded guilty but mentally insane for murdering his 77-year-old father and leaving his body in Logan Canyon in September—Clayton Robert Shaw, 33, is held without bail in Cache County Jail and faces a court review on May 14 as his mental state is evaluated. KVNU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At their meeting Tuesday, the Logan City School District Board of Education celebrated the Logan High School Speech and Debate team and discussed board compensation. The board noted the team's achievements and reviewed its pay practices. The Herald Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Retired Judge Thomas B. Griffith hosted the second annual President's Forum on Conflict and Conflict Transformation at USU on March 25th in Logan, where he warned that extreme political division weakens our nation. He urged local efforts to save the Constitution through building understanding and working together. KVNU
- ➤ The Cache County Council decided to form a study committee to review options for the county government after debate over House Bill 356 during the 2025 session. The five-member group—two picked by the council and three by its regional government group—will gather public input and review models to report its findings by the end of December and recommend a change on the November 2026 ballot. - ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox vetoed Senate Bill 296 on March 25—arguing that the measure would politicize the Utah Supreme Court by allowing the governor and Senate to select its chief justice and require reappointment every four years. His decision came amid an ongoing power struggle with the Legislature that began last summer following contentious rulings on redistricting. KVNU
