  • Past chairman Darren Parry of the Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation spoke to the Logan Kiwanis Club on March 26 about the Bear River Massacre and his tribe's plans to restore the sacred massacre site. He explained how his grandmother’s oral histories guide his work and described ongoing efforts with local experts—work that aims to heal the land and honor the past.  Cache Valley Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • A 29-year-old Logan man named Jacob Trent Ransom was arrested on March 31 at his auto dealership job for allegedly using a gaming app to share child sexual abuse material, and he now faces three counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor while held without bail pending arraignment.  Cache Valley Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • Darren Parry, former chairman of the Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation, spoke at the Logan Kiwanis Club on March 26 to share his people's oral histories of the Bear River Massacre and his plans to restore the sacred land to its natural state. He explained that his restoration work will remove invasive species, replant native vegetation, and reroute Bear Creek in collaboration with Utah State University specialists.  KVNU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources' Hardware Wildlife Education Center in Hyrum will host a free bear exhibit starting Friday, April 4 that offers displays on black bear safety and craft activities for families. The exhibit will run on select weekends until April 27—with the center closed on Easter weekend—and is located in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, 15 miles east of Hyrum on state Route 101.  Cache Valley Daily
