COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Utah State University’s Student Nutrition Access Center launched its monthly mobile food pantry Tuesday at Maverik Stadium in Logan, providing perishable goods to students and the public, and it will continue to operate each month.  The Herald Journal
  • Cache Community Food Pantry in Logan had a good spring as donations from two food drives and local cash contributions filled its bins—82,000 pounds were collected at the Feed Utah drive and 35,000 pounds came from a letter carriers drive on May 12 while over $12,000 was donated, serving nearly 1,000 people and 25 organizations each month.  KVNU

CRIME NEWS

  • Logan officials warned residents today about scam artists going door-to-door claiming to offer false weatherization grants for attic insulation—officials stressed there are no such programs and advised anyone approached to call the police.  Cache Valley Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cache County Council recognized local law enforcement and approved two Powder Mountain development agreements during its Tuesday meeting while also addressing other business items.  The Herald Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • PFAS chemicals are used in everyday items like nonstick cookware, food packaging, water-resistant clothing, and paper straws and they build up in the environment and our bodies. Experts advise residents to lower exposure by choosing products labeled PFAS-free and using water filters—such as reverse osmosis or activated carbon systems—that can remove these chemicals.  Cache Valley Daily
  • The United Health Foundation said Utah ranks as the 6th healthiest state, but Cache County data shows a rise in mental distress with 23% of Medicare beneficiaries reporting depression versus 17.9% nationally. The report also noted strong local health outcomes—such as a higher life expectancy of 80.7 years and lower smoking rates—despite these mental health concerns.  Cache Valley Daily
