The Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation has awarded a record $23.2 million in grants to fund 142 outdoor recreation projects across all 29 counties—supporting local projects like improving winter access at Logan Canyon.

Logan police arrested 33-year-old Joshua Thad Hunsaker—who allegedly repeatedly misused 911 and bit an officer at Logan Regional Hospital—on May 19; he faces charges of assault on an officer, interfering with a public servant, and criminal trespass with no bail.

A 27-year-old Logan man, Patrick Burke Thompson, was sentenced to two weeks in jail & two years of probation on May 19 for allegedly sexually assaulting a female acquaintance, with his sentence banning contact with her and requiring placement on the sex-offender registry.

A Clearfield woman was sentenced to six months in jail and three years of probation after stealing about $50,000 from a Logan rental property management company in 2021—her sentencing on May 19 in Logan’s 1st District Court followed a guilty plea to theft and deception.

A Logan man was arrested on May 19 after repeatedly calling 911 and biting a police officer at Logan Regional Hospital when he would not leave; he faces misdemeanor charges of assault on an officer, interfering with a public servant and criminal trespass (with prosecutors planning an additional felony emergency reporting charge) and will remain in jail pending his next court appearance on June 2.

Local business owner and municipal council member Mark Anderson announced he intends to run for mayor during a live broadcast on May 21.

He aims to bring calm leadership and will file his candidacy in person at the City Recorder's Office from 8 a.m. on June 2 to 5 p.m. on June 6 — no other candidates have signaled their plans.

Logan City Council approved the city's annual Community Development Block Grant Action Plan Tuesday—detailing funding recommendations for dozens of projects to help residents with lower and middle incomes—and will use the funds to boost community development over the coming months.
