EDUCATION NEWS

  • Utah State University Extension’s Gardeners Almanac offers June tips to help local gardeners improve their yards by stopping asparagus harvests early, pruning tomatoes and spring shrubs, using drip irrigation, planting sweet corn every other week until early July, thinning fruit on trees, and applying a second round of pre-emergent herbicides to control weeds. It also advises watching for pest damage on vegetables and trees so gardeners can address issues like earwig damage, powdery mildew, and fruit fly infestations promptly.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Utah State University Extension has launched a statewide virtual Marathon Kids summer program today through August 9 to help local youth and families build physical activity. Participants may run, walk or play—tracking their miles on a free digital platform and earning an entry in a prize drawing for each marathon completed.  KVNU
