- ➤ Joshua Peter Jager, a 20-year-old former USU student, was sentenced to probation on June 9 by Logan’s 1st District Court for mixing chemicals in his dorm room that forced two evacuations in January — he is banned from USU and from possessing dangerous chemicals, with a restitution hearing scheduled for August 11. - ➤ A 68-year-old Logan man named Vern Evan Buist admitted to possessing child pornography after a search warrant — executed on October 23, 2024 — uncovered tens of thousands of images, and he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor on June 4; he awaits sentencing on August 8 and could face up to 30 years in prison. - ➤ Sheriff Chad Jensen proposed that deputies will receive a mid-year pay hike starting in July to help stem losses after many experienced staff left for higher pay elsewhere—this plan would raise the starting wage to $30.92 per hour at a cost of about $750,000 for the rest of 2025 with an ongoing expense of $1.5M in future years, though county officials have not yet acted on it. - ➤ Cache County Council approved Joshua Barson as the new director of Behavioral Health services at Bear River Health Department on June 10.
