- ➤ A Logan man named Luis Lapa Alcantara was arrested for allegedly breaking into his roommate’s bedroom and attempting to strangle and rape her on Sept. 30, 2024—an incident following a history of alleged abuse—and he faces charges including aggravated burglary, tampering with a witness, aggravated assault, stalking and violating a court order with a court appearance set for June 18. - ➤ The Utah State University Mars Rover team qualified for an international Rover Challenge in 2020 — but the event was canceled due to COVID. KVNU
- ➤ Utah State University’s Mars Rover team earned its second trip to the international Rover Challenge by finishing 27th among 38 finalists at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville while competing against 114 teams from 15 countries. The small team of fewer than 10 members built rovers to complete the Science Mission, Equipment Servicing Mission and Delivery Mission tasks — led by team leader Andres Buval and faculty advisor Jackson Graham. - ➤ Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) said Logan must use all energy sources to keep power affordable and reliable as city officials plan to shift from coal-fired plants to natural gas and renewables, and he said new tools like carbon capture may soon let fossil fuels burn without harmful emissions by 2050. - ➤ Logan city officials warn residents that temperatures will reach the 90s this weekend and advise everyone to stay cool and drink plenty of water. They urge vulnerable groups (older residents, young children, and those with health conditions) to avoid direct sunlight and use air conditioning or fans to prevent heat illness. KVNU
