CRIME NEWS

  • A 42-year-old Logan man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a neighbor’s apartment to install a hidden camera in the bathroom — he faces burglary and voyeurism charges, posted bail before his arraignment, and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Gabriel Enrique Bustamante, a 30-year-old Logan man, was arrested on June 16 for allegedly assaulting a woman multiple times after police were called to a domestic dispute on the southwest side when videos showed him striking her over an argument about his mistress—he is set to appear in court on June 23 facing several charges.  Cache Valley Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Utah State University launched the Community Pathway Scholarship to help Cache County residents return to school after a three-year break — the award covers 50 percent tuition for two quarters and offers a $500 living stipend per semester, with applications opening July 1 for fall enrollment.  Cache Valley Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Utah State University Women & Leadership Project released a report today showing that Utah women are voting at rates that have slightly increased in recent elections while still facing challenges in local representation and support for issues like victim safety — the study suggests that more women running for office could help strengthen local decision making.  KVNU
  • The Logan Municipal Council tentatively approved a $218 million budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year starting July 1—this budget includes salary increases for elected officials and a 2.9% property tax hike pending a Truth-in-Taxation public hearing. The public hearing is set for Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Logan City Hall—if approved, the tax hike will add about $7.69 per year on an average $518,000 home.  KVNU
  • The USU UWLP published its report on how Utah women vote and take part in community life, noting they helped start equal voting in 1870 — though recent turnout is low and few hold local office. The report finds that more help with education and community support may boost voter participation and improve women's lives.  Cache Valley Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • USU researcher Tzung-Shiang Ou led a four-year study that found over one-third of college students who vape socially also use alcohol and face increased drinking problems — researchers from three universities collaborated on the work, which was funded by the National Institutes of Health.  Cache Valley Daily
