CULTURE NEWS

  • A restored 1963 pipe organ originally built for a famed symphony orchestra in NYC has been installed at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Logan — the organ underwent a years-long restoration before arriving at its new home.  The Herald Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews battled a wildfire burning 50 to 70 acres that forced the closure of a section of Logan Canyon and led to evacuations in the Lewis M. Turner and Tony Grove areas— the blaze started Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. and is burning on both sides of US-89 between mileposts 477 and 479 as more than 130 personnel from local and state agencies work the scene with a Type 3 Incident Management Team set to take control Wednesday.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Firefighters reached 50% containment on the Rick Springs Fire burning 26 acres in Logan Canyon on both sides of US-89, and evacuations remain lifted at Tony Grove Campground with a soft closure in effect between mileposts 477 and 479. Officials urge travelers to use caution with Pioneer Day traffic and fireworks restrictions — the human-caused fire remains under investigation — as 110 personnel work to monitor hotspots.  Cache Valley Daily

  • Logan officials have modified city service and facility schedules for Pioneer Day today — the Bear River Ramblers will headline the celebration at Willow Park — to ensure residents are prepared for the holiday, with updated routes and timings in effect.  KVNU
  • Cache County Clerk Bryson Behm explained that ballots for the Aug. 12 primary election will be mailed to selected registered voters and must be received by his office by 8 p.m. for counting. Voters in Logan may drop off ballots at the Cache County Administration Building or at the USU campus — early in-person voting is available from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 — ensuring ballots meet the new state law criteria.  Cache Valley Daily
