CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 34-year-old Logan man was arrested on charges of allegedly kidnapping a woman—forcing her to drive him to Salt Lake City and withdraw $140 from an ATM—after a May 25 domestic dispute that left her with a fractured rib; he is set to face court on August 4 for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and aggravated assault. - ➤ Fire officials declared the Ricks Springs Fire contained at 26 acres on Friday night—local crews patrolled the area and repaired damage along US-89, and no structures were threatened. Cache Valley Daily
- ➤ Local fire officials declared the Rick Springs Fire in Logan Canyon 100% contained on 26 acres today — the blaze, which burned on both sides of Highway 89, is no longer a threat. No injuries or structures were affected while local teams continued patrols and crews focused on repairs to prevent erosion. KVNU

- ➤ Local election candidates introduced themselves for the 2025 municipal election through a series of interviews by the Herald Journal—these interviews feature candidates for Richmond City Council, Wellsville City mayor, North Logan mayor, Hyrum positions, Logan Municipal Council, Providence City Council, and Smithfield City Council. - ➤ The USDA announced on July 24th that more than half of its 4,600 employees will be moved from Washington to five agricultural hubs—including one in Salt Lake City—as part of a plan to cut costs and bring experts closer to local farmers, and Senator Mike Lee praised the change as a win for Utah land managers. - ➤ The Utah Department of Transportation announced that Logan Canyon will be closed on Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. due to a rescheduled construction project near Beaver Creek Lodge—road crews will redo the highway surface, replace damaged signs and update drainage culverts while motorists are advised to take longer detour routes. - ➤ State officials from UDOT warn Logan motorists that the intersection of 1900 West and SR-30 will be closed for up to two weeks starting Monday, July 28 for reconstruction—drivers wishing to access 1900 West must detour via 1000 West and then use either 200 South or 600 South.
