ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities identified 19-year-old Teagan Swanepoel from Preston, Idaho who died at the scene when his black Kawasaki plunged into the Blacksmith Fork River along SR-101 on July 24 just before 11 p.m.—troopers cited speed and inexperience as possible factors.  Cache Valley Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old Logan man pleaded guilty to charges of forcible sexual abuse + assault and lewdness after repeatedly harassing his female co-worker at a local restaurant, and he is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 5 where he could face over one year in prison.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Logan City Police arrested a 25-year-old man with a history of assaults on Sunday morning after he allegedly attacked a man and held him against his will at his home—police reported the victim suffered facial injuries and his belongings were scattered.  Cache Valley Daily
  • A 19-year-old Logan man pleaded guilty to sexually harassing his female co-worker at a local restaurant where the abuse lasted for several years—he accepted a plea deal that dismissed 12 charges and now awaits sentencing on Sept. 5.  KVNU

  • Melissa Anderson Asay, a Utah State University student, placed a red marker at 1499 S. Bear Lake Blvd in Garden City to honor the Bear Lake Monster urban legend with support from English Professor Jeannie Thomas—she secured a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation to fund the project. The marker was installed with permission from property owners Brad Davis and Jayne Hodges and will join over 2,500 historical markers in Utah as Asay continues her research on local folklore.  Cache Valley Daily
  • An artist who created several murals in downtown Logan is now working on a new mural for the west facing wall of The Sportsman—this project will add fresh art to local public spaces.  The Herald Journal
  • Sandy Emile, who started the Cache Valley Civic Ballet over 40 years ago, retired on July 23 with a new title of Founding Director as Jaime Lindley became the new artistic director (joined by Executive Director Emily Buckley and the board) at the Whittier Community Center in Logan. The ballet now features 45 auditioned dancers and trains over 400 students annually.  KVNU
