COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Labor Day evening, about 150 people gathered at the Cache County Historic Courthouse lawn in Logan for the 'Workers Over Billionaires' rally to protest income inequality—marking a break from typical holiday barbecues.  The Herald Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Logan will host its first Creative Aging Festival at the Bullen Center on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—a free event by AmeriCorps Seniors and CacheARTS that will offer workshops in ceramics, singing, ballet, music and dance for adults 55 and older. The festival will help improve brain health and mood and kick off new art programs such as the New Horizons Orchestra starting Sept. 22.  KVNU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Utah State University's Carolyn & Kem Gardner Learning & Leadership Building opened Friday to the public during an open house. The new facility, called the Center of Centers, will serve as a hub for learning and leadership on campus.  The Herald Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Utah Department of Public Safety is urging drivers to sleep well and be alert as more than 520 drowsy driving crashes have occurred this year and 30 lives were lost over the last five years—officials say teens and males under 29 are most at risk and advise taking frequent breaks on long trips.  Cache Valley Daily
  • The Utah Department of Public Safety is urging drivers to sleep smart because drowsy driving has claimed 30 lives and caused nearly 1,000 crashes per year over the last five years—more than 520 such crashes have already been reported in 2025. Officials advise teens, men under 29, and long-trip drivers to rest well and plan frequent breaks to help keep roads safe.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Former Cache County Policy Analyst Micah Safsten is one of five candidates running in the special election for Cache County executive, scheduled for Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m.—voters will soon choose their new leader. This election will determine the next executive for Cache County.  The Herald Journal
  • UDOT officials say construction on the 600 South Underpass Project starts today, and motorists should expect lane, shoulder, and sidewalk closures through December as work continues until summer when 600 South will permanently close at Main Street. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during peak hours — further details on night and weekend closures will be provided in updates.  Cache Valley Daily
