CRIME NEWS

  • Cody James Anderson, a 32-year-old North Logan man with a domestic history, accepted a plea agreement at Logan’s 1st District Court after threatening and harassing a woman—he pleaded guilty to dangerous weapon possession as a restricted person, violating a no contact order and obstructing justice while 57 charges were dismissed, and he is set to be sentenced on Oct. 6 with possible prison time exceeding five years.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Logan City police arrested Sam Hale Merritt on Tuesday after he allegedly sent 1,500 threatening messages to Child and Family Services—he also resisted arrest.  The Herald Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two new candidates—Mark Hurd, a Cache County Council member, and Matt Carey, a 14-year Army veteran—filed to run in the GOP special election to replace County Executive David Zook when filing ended on Sept. 4; the special election will take place at Ridgeline High School on Sept. 11 with the winner serving until December. This development adds to the crowded field competing for the county's top executive role.  KVNU

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A national study from Manhattan Mental Health Counseling found that Utah ranks as the best state for female retirees since it offers moderate living costs, high safety, quality hospitals, and a high share of women over 65—factors that make life secure and social. The study rated Utah 4th in safety and hospital care and 2nd in older female population with a life expectancy of 80.2 years.  KVNU
  • American West Heritage Center in Wellsville will host the second annual Rocky Mountain Regional Homesteaders Conference and Fair on September 12—13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—it will offer hands-on workshops on topics such as backyard chickening, beekeeping, and gardening for participants of all skill levels.  Cache Valley Daily
