COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local AmeriCorps program that had its funding cut in April has had its funding restored and is now back to work helping local nonprofits—serving communities with renewed support.  The Herald Journal
  • More than 200 residents joined Logan firefighters on Thursday night at USU to honor 9/11 victims by running up and down the stadium stairs—reflecting the nearly identical number of steps in the World Trade Center—and participating in ceremonies with flag presentations, musical tributes, and a bell ringing. Fire Battalion Chief John Cox noted that the memorial also recalled recent local losses, reinforcing how the community came together during hard times.  Cache Valley Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Cache County School District is using LAND Trust funds to boost college readiness—an effort highlighted by the Utah Land Trusts Protection and Advocacy Office. The district plans to expand academic support so students are better prepared for college.  The Herald Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dirk Anderson and Craig Anhder are running to be Cache County Executive—each promising new ideas for local government. They will soon share their plans with voters to help run the county.  Cache Valley Daily
  • George Daines won the Cache County executive special election by defeating Micah Safsten by 8% and will be sworn in by the Cache County Council on Tuesday—he is set to serve as the new county executive.  The Herald Journal
  • UDOT has closed 3200 West at State Route 30 for intersection reconstruction and will reopen for the weekend before closing again Monday for paving — additional closures are planned.  The Herald Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • USU Student Affairs and Bear River Health Department launched the Healthy Aggies Coalition to reduce substance misuse and support mental health among students and community members. The coalition will focus on education and policy advocacy to build a strong culture of wellness.  Cache Valley Daily
