- ➤ Local and state officials are concerned that fatal motorcycle crashes have increased while overall traffic fatalities dropped by about 10% this year—prompting a review of road safety measures. The Herald Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, a WalletHub report ranked Utah as the second-best state for teachers — with strong support from school leaders and competitive starting salaries. The report also found that teacher pay grew 50 percent over the past decade and noted that Idaho ranked 19th. Cache Valley Daily
- ➤ Troop 1, Logan’s oldest scout troop at 115 years, spent 81 days backpacking nine trails in Logan Canyon and Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest while traveling 1,152 miles. Scouts earned merit badges in horsemanship, kayaking and geocaching while parents handled safety and transportation — a plan that shows teamwork and learning. KVNU
- ➤ Utah State University fell from 66th to 141st in a national free speech survey released September 9 as it earned an F grade with a score of 56.9. - ➤ School districts across Utah have opened a survey asking parents, students, and community members to share their views on adjusting high school sports calendars and time policies—Cache County officials say any changes will help balance academics, athletics, and family time. - ➤ Logan officials met on Sept. 15 at City Hall to consider a proposed treatment facility in the Cliffside neighborhood, and the Land Use Appeal Board upheld Michael DeSimone’s decision to waive a public hearing. Local attorney Brett Chambers said residents will appeal to the state Office of the Property Rights Ombudsman—Cliffside residents plan to take further legal steps if a positive finding is made. - ➤ The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will offer free rifle, handgun, archery and shotgun shooting at Cache Valley Public Shooting Range in Logan on Sept 27 as part of National Hunting and Fishing Day — a promotion to thank those who support wildlife conservation. Participants must show a valid hunting, fishing or combination license and can also access ongoing discounts if they purchase a firearm or archery equipment within 30 days. Cache Valley Daily

- ➤ Sara Miranda— a USU paralympian— left her classes on Sept. 13 to fly to Singapore for the IPC World Swimming Championships, scheduled from Sept. 21 to 27. She represents Costa Rica and is ranked 9th in the 100-meter backstroke and 13th in the 400-meter freestyle. Cache Valley Daily
