EDUCATION NEWS

  • USU Extension family life specialist David Schramm and BYU’s Jason Carroll have launched Disagree Better: A Parenting Toolkit that offers free online lessons to help parents and children manage disagreements—each module takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete.  KVNU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cache County Clerk Bryson Behm received his VOTE Certification at a Utah Association of Counties convention in Layton from Sept. 8 to 10—this award recognizes his commitment to running free, fair and secure elections after starting his service in April 2024.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Cache County saw a leadership change when N. George Daines was sworn in as County Executive on Sept. 16—he won the special election and began reorganizing his office by accepting the deputy executive’s resignation. Daines will serve the remainder of the term until December and remain until he meets his goals for fiscal accountability and transparency.  Cache Valley Daily
  • City officials in Logan announced that the access road and trails at Trapper Park will close Monday, Sept 22 until spring for planned construction improvements—these include a canal enclosure, river restoration, and a pedestrian bridge installation. The park at 1497 South, 1600 West will also see river diversion and bank stabilization efforts to improve riparian habitat.  KVNU
  • A packed meeting on Monday saw Logan’s Land Use Appeal Board uphold the director’s decision to approve a conditional use permit for a residential sober living facility in the Cliffside area — the decision skipped the usual public process.  The Herald Journal
  • Cache County Council has scheduled a Truth in Taxation hearing for 6 p.m. on Nov. 18—residents will be formally notified soon. The county also reported that its chief deputy executive has resigned.  The Herald Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Utah Department of Health and Human Services detected measles in wastewater from the Bear River Health District—prompting local officials to alert the public. No human cases have been confirmed and residents are advised to check their MMR vaccination records.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Utah health officials detected measles in wastewater samples from the Bear River Health District on Tuesday—no human cases were confirmed. Officials said they will continue testing to monitor any potential health risks.  The Herald Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Logan’s Hallie Smith, a 15-year-old Sky View goalie battling epilepsy, received an RNS device last November and is competing in the Sports Illustrated Youth Athlete of the Year quarterfinals as voting ends today. Her mother said that switching from dance to soccer has given Hallie a supportive outlet—she continues to face changing seizure patterns as treatments evolve.  KVNU
