Good morning, Logan. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 19th of September.
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ USU's Utah Women & Leadership Project released a study that shows Utah college students view teaching as a career with challenges like low pay and high student-teacher ratios—women are more likely than men to pursue teaching and face extra cultural expectations. The report suggests that pay concerns, large classes, and limited support affect the numbers of new teachers in our state. Cache Valley Daily
- ➤ An indoor ticketed event on the USU campus, organized by a student club & Turning Point USA, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30 with an unfinalized venue. USU’s Department of Public Safety is working with local, state & federal partners to secure the event. Cache Valley Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Utah joined the Federal Trade Commission and several other states in a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Live Nation and Ticketmaster for allegedly hiding fees and steering ticket sales toward high-priced secondary markets. The complaint claims that hidden fees increased ticket prices by 24% to 44%—generating billions in extra revenue while encouraging brokers to bypass purchase limits. KVNU
- ➤ At a Sept. 16 meeting, County Policy Analyst Andrew Erickson told Cache County Council the steps needed to legally consider a property tax increase for 2026, noting that council members must publicly state their intent with the dollar amount and percent increase by Oct. 14.
