ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Logan firefighters responded to the Mitton Fire burning near the summit of Sardine Canyon along US-89/91 around 3 p.m. Wednesday—federal officials later took over to contain the blaze.  Cache Valley Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • The American Festival Chorus and Orchestra will present their Concert of Peace at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Daines Concert Hall on the Utah State University campus.  KVNU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Red Rock Pass on Hwy 91 near Downey in northern Cache Valley marks where ancient Lake Bonneville burst, letting a huge flood into the Snake River. Visitors can climb 76 stairs to see the old monolith and a small cemetery with Capt. Jefferson Hunt's headstone—an important reminder of our local past.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Zootah’s Building a Dam Good Future gala will be held tomorrow to raise funds for a beaver enclosure at the zoo—partnering with The Beaver Ecology and Relocation Collaborative.  The Herald Journal
  • Red Rock Pass is a geological site on northern Cache Valley near Downey on Hwy 91 at milepost 30.2 — it marks where Lake Bonneville burst and sent floodwaters into the Snake River.   • Today, Logan Ranger District fire crews will begin a series of prescribed burns near Blacksmith Fork Canyon close to Ephraim’s Grave—efforts aimed at reducing wildfire risk and managing vegetation.  The Herald Journal

  • This September, mental health and substance use challenges are in focus as National Recovery/Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month offers vital resources and training—USU HEART Initiative and local groups provide naloxone education and crisis support to help reduce overdoses and suicide risks.  Cache Valley Daily

  • Interim Utah State University President Alan Smith introduced Cameron Walker as the new Director of Athletics at USU during a press conference—Walker is set to lead the athletics department going forward.  Cache Valley Daily
  • Interim Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour met with local media following Cameron Walker's introductory press conference—she addressed questions about the department's transition.  Cache Valley Daily
