- ➤ At the Center Street Giant Pumpkin Festival in Logan, pumpkin growers and festival-goers saw a giant pumpkin grower break the state record on Saturday. The record-breaking pumpkin was the largest ever weighed at the annual fall event. The Herald Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, Logan Ranger District crews began a controlled burn of about 2,100 acres near Ephraim's Grave and produced visible smoke above Logan Canyon—mountain roads like Temple Fork and Long Hollow and trails including Elk Valley Divide, Ephraims Cutoff and Nebeker Springs were closed for safety. Officials said the burn is part of the Blacksmith Fork project and asked visitors to follow posted warning signs near the area. Cache Valley Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources announced the general duck hunt starts on Oct. 4 and runs until Jan. 17 — with the northern zone open from Oct. 11 to Jan. 24 and youth hunts slated for Sept. 20 in the north and Sept. 27 in the south. Hunters need a valid license, HIP number, and federal duck stamp for those 16 or older and should review the guidebook for zone boundaries and bag limits. Cache Valley Daily
