CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Approximately 3,400 student musicians will gather at Logan’s Merlin Olsen Field tomorrow for the Bridgerland Marching Band Invitational, one of the largest competitions in the state. Sponsored by Mountain Crest High School, the event will feature scheduled performances—including a 9:15 National Anthem by local students—and band sets throughout the day. Cache Valley Daily
- ➤ Smithfield residents are restoring the Douglas General Mercantile Store—built in 1883 and used for community events—to become a museum ahead of the upcoming open house, with local contractors and volunteers updating modern amenities and preserving historic features. Cache Valley Daily
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Utah Board of Higher Education voted unanimously on Thursday to establish a task force that will review and improve campus safety across public colleges following concerns raised by a recent security incident. The group will include campus security+law enforcement, administrators, faculty, and student representatives to recommend better safety measures. Cache Valley Daily

- ➤ Logan officials announced that the downtown Splash Pad will close in two days—chilly autumn weather is prompting the early shutdown and local children have just a short time left to enjoy it. KVNU
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Utah ranked ninth overall in a new health report from SmileHub that measured hospital quality, outdoor access and medical visit costs—its public hospital system ranked first and outdoor access came in second. The report compared all 50 states using 23 health metrics to show strong results that support local lifestyles. Cache Valley Daily
- ➤ The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is urging local deer hunters to visit check stations during this fall’s hunt to test for chronic wasting disease—an illness that causes severe health issues in deer, elk and moose. Hunters must leave a neck sample from their harvested deer at these stations or at the Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Logan to help monitor the disease. KVNU
