CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Zootah will host its three-day Boo at the Zoo event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Oct. 9 through Oct. 11—promising family-friendly fun with spooky attractions. The Herald Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At the CEHS Scholarship and Awards Banquet in Logan, more than 550 fall semester scholarships totaling nearly $1.25 million were awarded and top honors went to Abby Cox, Lisa Boyce, and Richard Gordin—special guests included USU Interim President Al Smith and former Aggies Utah Governor and First Lady Spencer and Abby Palmer Cox. - ➤ Logan City School District held a ribbon cutting last Friday for its finished Grizzly Fieldhouse at 125 E 1000 N in the former Municipool building next to Mount Logan. The Herald Journal
- ➤ After nearly a year of shipping delays, three new simulators have arrived at USU and are actively being integrated into the Aviation Technology program—improving training for students. The Herald Journal
- ➤ The Utah Women—Leadership Project at USU published a report on how fertility and family trends in Utah changed from 1970 to 2023. The study shows that Utah women had more children in the past and that shifts in marriage and divorce patterns may affect future planning. KVNU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Municipal elections will be held Nov. 4 throughout northern Utah and southern Idaho with ballots mailed to voters starting Oct. 14—ballots must arrive at the Cache County Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted. In Logan, voters can also cast their ballots in person at the Cache County Event Center or at drop boxes in the Administration Building and Clerk’s Office. Cache Valley Daily
- ➤ The Utah State Fire Marshal’s Office is launching a safety campaign to remind Utahns about the fire risks of lithium-ion batteries during Fire Prevention Week—which lasts through Oct. 11—in partnership with local fire departments and state agencies. State Fire Marshal Ted Black said the campaign urges proper purchase, safe charging, and responsible disposal to prevent dangerous fires. KVNU

- ➤ A new study shows that eating animal protein is safe and might help lower cancer risks—research that analyzed data from nearly 16,000 adults clears up confusion about protein in a healthy diet. KVNU
