- ➤ The Light the World Giving Machines will return to Cache Valley this December at 55 West Center in front of Great Harvest Bread Company in Logan from Monday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. until Dec. 31—this event will let visitors donate items to support local nonprofits as it did last year with 16,681 donations and checks ranging from $40,000 to $70,000. - ➤ The Utah Board of Higher Education unanimously named Brad L. Mortensen as Utah State University’s 18th president during a meeting in Taggart—Mortensen is set to leave his position as Weber State University president soon. The Herald Journal
- ➤ Brad L. Mortensen was unanimously chosen by the Utah Board of Higher Education as the 18th president of Utah State University—USU alumnus Mortensen will assume his new role on Nov. 10 as the university transitions after President Elizabeth R. Cantwell’s departure. Cache Valley Daily

- ➤ Logan city officials have released a list of do’s and don’ts for Halloween, advising trick-or-treaters to use flashlights, children to stay on sidewalks, and drivers to slow down—while homeowners are urged to keep walkways lit and use battery-powered candles for safety. City emergency managers call on residents to show kindness and understanding to all children, including those with sensory challenges, to help ensure a safe and inclusive night on Oct. 31. KVNU
